Manhunt under way in assault

— A manhunt is under way for a Council Hill man charged with eight felonies in McIntosh County.

A warrant for Clinton Riley Potts, 38, was filed by the McIntosh County District Attorney’s Office on Thursday.

On Aug. 17, Potts allegedly shot at a man in his truck, stole his vehicle and later threatened to kill him, according to court records. The victim was not injured.

The court documents say Potts told him he “had killed before and would do so again.”

On Aug. 23, Potts is suspected of breaking into Garrett’s Wrecker in Checotah and taking that same truck, according to a court filing.

U.S. Marshals and the Okmulgee County Sheriff’s Office have been called in to help find Potts, said McIntosh County Sheriff’s Detective Jared West.

“We’ve already been to his residence and searched for him,” he said. “There’s an active manhunt going for him.”

Potts is charged with:

• Assault by use of a firearm.

• Possession of a firearm.

• Two counts of theft of a vehicle.

• Two counts of possession of a stolen vehicle.

• Second-degree burglary.

• Threatening to perform a violent act.

Potts is described as a white male with brown eyes, blond hair and weighing 130 pounds. He is 5 feet 8 inches tall, according to a warrant.

Potts was convicted of first-degree murder in 2009 for the 2004 death of Gregory Leon Clark. That conviction was overturned in 2011 and refiled by Muskogee County prosecutors. It was dismissed in July 2012.
