New Muskogee resident missing

By Dylan Goforth

— A recent transplant to Muskogee who hasn’t been seen in more than a week has the family he was living with worried.

Brittnie Connelly said she and her husband haven’t seen Egbert Pepper since Oct. 28.

Pepper, 49, had moved to the area two months ago from California. He had been working in construction, Connelly said.

Pepper called her and asked to borrow her white 1996 Dodge Ram van to go to work.

“Then he called us from Oklahoma City, saying the van was broken down,” Connelly said.

Pepper is described as being Native American, 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing 180 pounds. He has a mustache in his picture, but Connelly said he had shaved the mustache before disappearing. He was last seen wearing a plaid shirt, black pants and brown work boots.

The man who was in the van with Pepper hitchhiked back to Muskogee, Connelly said, but left Pepper phoneless on the side of the road.

Attempts by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and Connelly’s family to locate the van, which Connelly said had been left on a stretch of Interstate 40 between Clinton and Weatherford, have been unsuccessful.

“We’re worried about him here,” Connelly said. “And his family in California is worried about him, too.”

Connelly said her husband and Pepper have been “like brothers” their whole lives, and said Pepper had no history of disappearances or mental problems.

Anyone with information on Pepper can call the Muskogee Police Department at (918) 683-8000.

“We just want to know he’s OK,” Connelly said.
