City man arrested after manhunt

A Muskogee man arrested after a manhunt spanning about a month is expected to face complaints in Muskogee.

Richard James Kessinger Sr., was arrested about noon Monday by the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force at 1220 Wood St., in Muskogee on felony charges of failure to register as a sex offender in Cherokee County.

Kessinger is held at the Muskogee County/City Detention Center on $25,000 bond on a hold for Cherokee County.

Misty Winegardner, spokeswoman for the U.S. Marshals Service, said Kessinger also faced drug charges and three other felony counts stemming from an arrest in March.

Winegardner said because Kessinger was arrested at a Muskogee residence where it appeared he was living, Muskogee police would likely file a report on Kessinger for failing to register in Muskogee County.

Winegardner said the manhunt for Kessinger resulted in the arrests of at least seven other people for various offenses.
