Cherokee College Prep Institute applications now open

TAHLEQUAH — Applications are being accepted for the second annual Cherokee College Prep Institute, according to a media release.

The Cherokee Nation Foundation is partnering with Cherokee Nation Businesses’ Citizen Development Initiative and the University of Arkansas for the event which will take place July 7-12.

The college-readiness program connects high school juniors and seniors with university representatives from across the nation.

During the weeklong residential program, students will stay in traditional dorms and visit classrooms to get insight to what student life is like.

With a 4-to-1 student-faculty ratio, students will analyze, prepare and complete college applications, identify scholarship opportunities and explore schools of interest. They also will take part in interactive sessions focusing on ACT strategies, essay writing, interview skills and time management.

This year’s participating universities will include the University of Arkansas, University of Central Arkansas, University of Central Oklahoma, Dartmouth College, Duke University, Northeastern State University, Oklahoma State University, University of Oklahoma, University of Pennsylvania, Rogers State University, Stanford University, Texas Christian University, University of Tulsa and Yale University.

Applications are available and will be accepted until March 13.
