Ex-deputy to appear in drug theft case

Arraignment for a former deputy accused of stealing narcotics is set for next month.

Joshua Brian Tackett, 31, appeared briefly in Muskogee County District Court on Tuesday.

Tackett waived his preliminary hearing and was bound over as charged, said District Attorney Larry Moore. Tackett is scheduled for district court arraignment at 1:30 p.m. Dec. 19. At that time, he will enter a plea.

Tackett was charged with one felony count of larceny of a controlled dangerous substance from the Muskogee County/City Detention Facility.

About 83 hydrocodone pills were taken from the jail’s medical office, according to court documents.

Tackett was terminated from his position at the jail in August because of the alleged theft. Surveillance footage showed Tackett taking the drugs from a medical cabinet, according to an affidavit.
