FORT GIBSON – Women Who Care has an additional $10,000 to help provide more mammograms to women in the Muskogee area, thanks to a recent contribution from Cherokee Casino Fort Gibson officials.
“This means a whole lot for our organization,” Cassandra Gaines, president of Women Who Care, said in a media release. “Before we were limited to mammograms and this opens the door for us to also do ultrasounds. This contribution is truly a blessing.”
Throughout October, every point earned on a Cherokee Star Rewards card was matched by the casino in the form of a financial contribution. When guests won a jackpot of $1,200 or more, the casino paid it forward with $25 to the organization.
“It is an honor to continue our support to organizations like Women Who Care,” said Chris Province, general manager of Cherokee Casino Fort Gibson. “Working together, we help create awareness through public health education and financially support the fight against cancer through health screenings.”
The local nonprofit, Women Who Care, is tasked with providing the Muskogee area with education and outreach for breast cancer prevention and detection. The program provides women with vouchers for mammograms to present at area doctors’ offices. The vouchers are accepted by all doctors in the Muskogee area. During the past three years, the program has assisted more than 800 women. Individuals can get more information about the program from their doctor’s office.
