Cindy Skaggs answers questions about a benefit dinner for Tommy Barnett. Barnett has been diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer. All of the money raised during the benefit dinner will go to Barnett and and his wife, Kathy, to help with medical expenses, treatment and out-of-pocket expenses.
Who is Tommy Barnett?
"Tommy has been married to his wife, Kathy, for 34 years. They have two children, TJ and Brittany. Tommy is papa to six grandchildren. Tommy has lived in the Muskogee area most of his life. He has been an electrician for Wofford Electric for 10 years and was employed with Etchison Electric for 15 years previous."
Why did you decide to have this event?
"Tommy’s diagnosis has been such a shock to his family and friends. Tommy has always helped anyone in need, and it didn’t matter if they asked for help or not. If he sees a need, he’s there. We wanted to give back to him just like he’s always given to everyone else.
Due to his advanced diagnosis, Tommy needs immediate treatment. Tommy’s portion of his treatment cost is high so his friends and family want to help bear those costs, including the costs associated with traveling to and from treatment. Tommy will be unable to work due to his diagnosis and associated treatment, so we wanted to help with his costs of living during this time as well."
How can people donate to the silent auction?
"Please contact Lauren Lambeth at (918) 869-1833 for Silent Auction donations. We absolutely appreciate all donations."
What else can be done to help out?
"The Barnetts are a Christian family, so they would certainly appreciate constant prayer for Tommy and his family. We have had many friends and family donate food, paper products and drinks for the benefit dinner. We would appreciate any additional food donations. Tommy’s treatment will be ongoing, so there will be mounting medical expenses, and any future financial donations will be certainly appreciated."
Who is entertaining at the event?
"We are excited to have two local entertainers that have volunteered to perform during the benefit: Wes Parish and Billy Arnett Band."
If I can’t attend the event, how else can I help?
"We would love to see and visit with all Tommy’s family and friends at this event. If you would like to provide additional help, contact Cindy Skaggs (918) 781-2252 or firstname.lastname@example.org."
