Mary Louise “Mary Lou” Gilpin, 81, of Eufaula, Oklahoma, passed away quietly surrounded by family on May 1, 2008 at Jordan’s Nursing Home, Bridgman, MI.
Cremation has taken place.
She was born in Scandia, KS on December 19, 1926 to Archie B. and Ida E. Carpenter. She married Robert L. Gilpin on October 6, 1946 in Claflin, KS. Mary Lou was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved to read, knit, crochet and quilt. Up until her stroke, she was very active in her quilting club. Mary Lou made quilts for armed service soldiers, travel bags for foster children and fabric books for Alzheimer patients.
Mary Lou is survived by her husband of 61 years, Robert “Bob” Gilpin; their daughter, Bobbe Lou Gilpin of Baroda, MI; their son, Bruce L. (Diana) Gilpin of Mt. Juliet, TN; their granddaughters, Jennifer Gilpin of Newton Grove, NC, Stephanie (Hal) Hillcher of Mooresville, NC, Michelle (George) Worthington of Fort Mill, SC; great-granddaughter, Elyse Worthington; and sister, Lorraine (L.B.) Hammer.
Memorials may be made to Hospice at Home or the Humane Society.
Hoven Funeral Home, Buchanan, is handling arrangements for the family.
