Published May 16, 2008 11:25 pm - Katherine Jennings McNeely 1909 - 2008 At age 99, Katherine Jennings McNeely died on May 15, 2008 in Fort Gibson, Oklahoma. She was born in Bowling Green, Ohio, on March 9, 1909 and came with her parents, John and Katherine Jennings, to Sapulpa, Oklahoma, at the age of two. She survived all seven of her siblings as well as her daughter, Mary Ellen Ray-Storts-Appel, late of Fort Gibson, Oklahoma. Katherine leaves a son, David Eugene Ray, of Tucson, Arizona, and a son-in-law, William Appel, of Oklahoma. She also leaves seven grandchildren: the four sons of Mary Ellen, i.e. David Paul Storts, Mathew Glenn Storts, Daniel Gregory Storts, and Donald Gary Storts, as well as David Ray’s children, Winifred Katherine Blalock, Wesley Jean Dutta, and Sapphina James Kelley. She also leaves many great-grandchildren. Katherine McNeely worked as a nurse in Nowata, Oklahoma, and then was employed by the Department of Defense in Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Later she resided with her husband, Victor McNeely, in Copperas Cove, Texas for many years before moving to Fort Gibson, OK, in 2000. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Fort Gibson Nursing Home and Good Shepherd Hospice, whose prolonged care of Katherine has been tender, loving, and competent. Katherine Jennings McNeely was laid to rest beside her husband, Sgt. Victor McNeely, in the Fort Gibson National Cemetery. The family entrusted Bradley Funeral Service of Ft. Gibson with the arrangements.
