On Feb. 15, 1925, Dick and Janie Thompson gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. She was named Hattie Lee Thompson. Hattie was the oldest of 7 children. She loved and adored her siblings, taking good care of them. Hattie accepted Christ at an early age and loved to tell of the goodness of God. She attended Muskogee Public Schools, graduating from Historic Manual Training High School, where she was a member of the band.

After graduation, she became a licensed beautician. On March 29, 1944, she married Alonzo Abraham Shipp, Jr., and this union was blessed with 4 children. Hattie knew that he was the love of her life and was proud to be Mrs. Shipp.

Mrs. Shipp served her community, working at Muskogee Regional Medical Center, the VA Hospital, various nursing homes and also as a home health provider. She loved people and would always speak her mind. She wanted to make a difference and show love to everyone she came in contact with. She became a Foster-Grandparent at Cherokee Elementary School, where she worked until her death.

Laughter, love and happiness lives because of the love she shared. She closed her eyes on Earth on Nov. 1, 2009 from Tulsa. Hattie was met in Heaven by her husband, her parents, 2 sisters, 2 brothers, a daughter, and daughter-in-law. Remaining to continue her legacy; her children, Alonzo Shipp, II, Oklahoma City, OK, Sonya [Robert] Thomas, Muskogee and Adrian Shipp, Wichita, KS; a loving sister, Marie Lyons, Muskogee, her brother, Eric Thompson; 2 sisters-in-law that she adored, Lousie Haynes, Tulsa and Ruthie Thompson, Oklahoma City; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a caravan of other relatives and friends.

The Memorial Celebration will be on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. in the Timothy Baptist Church. Pastor Kelly Payne, the gracious host, and Rev. Aundrea H. Jones, Officiating. Keith D.
