Billy Leon Coppin

1927 - 2013

— Billy Leon Coppin was born in McClain, OK, on September 8, 1927 the son of Walter and Mattie (Kaiser) Coppin and died Friday, November 15, 2013 at Gore. He was the youngest of four boys. Billy married Wilma Faye Webb on November 8, 1946. Together they raised three children, daughter, Sharon Jones and husband, Ed; son, Phillip Coppin and wife, Penny; son, Kendell Coppin and wife, Marla.

Billy had six grandkids, grandson, Brett Jones and wife, Regina, granddaughter, Bonya Emerson and husband, Brendon, grandson, Lance Coppin and wife, Wendy, granddaughter, Kortney Eudy and husband, Dean, granddaughter, Kayla Gragg and husband, Mike, grandson, Kirby Coppin and wife, Chelsea. He has 13 great-grandchildren and one on the way; and two great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Leamon and Linda Webb, Paul and Pat Webb, Homer and Judy Webb, J.B. and Pebble Herriman, and Glenna Coppin.

Our dad enjoyed raising cattle and gardening. If you were around him very long he would have you talking cattle within five minutes or have you in the pasture with him looking at them. He always told the story of how he borrowed $10 from his father in 1949 to go to West Texas to pick cotton. He and our mother also enjoyed interior and exterior decorating for 30 years. Billy helped with the construction of the Eufaula Dam which was started in 1956 and completed in 1964. He loved to hunt deer, pheasant, and turkeys. He was very instrumental in getting the wild turkey population restocked in Eastern Oklahoma.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Wilma, on April 1, 2002; his parents; and three brothers, Marvin, Monzell, and Eugene Coppin.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, November 18, 2013 at the Keefeton Freewill Baptist Church with Reverend Cardell Coppin officiating. Pallbearers will be Lance Coppin, Kirby Coppin, Michael Gragg, Dean Eudy, Quinton Webb, and Tim Coppin. Honorary pallbearers are Roy Rains, Dwayne Skaggs, Brendon Emerson, Bobby Herriman, Jimmy Coppin, and J. B. Herriman. Burial will be in Vaught Cemetery under the direction of Millsap Funeral Service of Webbers Falls.
