Clifford Wade “Bud” Boyd was born April 27, 1922 in Miami, OK to Clifford and Florence Boyd. He passed from this life Sunday, November 17, 2013. He graduated from Miami High School in 1940. He was a veteran of WWII serving with the U.S. Navy from November of 1942 to December of 1945. He married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy Mae Crouch, February 9, 1947. Bud was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many positions including Bishop. He and his wife were pioneer members of the Church in Muskogee.
Bud retired from Sears. He was widely known and appreciated as a crappie fisherman, and an avid sports fan. He loved to garden and give away watermelons, especially to friends. With Bud around, the world was a happier place, and his humor was known by all who knew and loved him. For 19 years, Bud portrayed Johnny Appleseed for the first graders at Ft. Gibson Elementary School.
First and foremost, he was a wonderful husband to his wife of 67 years, Dorothy, who survives him. They were highschool sweethearts and enjoyed the simple things in life, like a packed sandwich lunch and a drive to the park, or a drive to see their beloved Oklahoma countryside, especially in the fall. In past years, their travels together, and with their family, now serve as beautiful memories. Their love and strong bonds of marriage, have set, an example to those who knew them.
Bud is remembered fondly in the hearts of his two surviving children, Stephen Boyd (wife Kathleen) of Alexandria, VA and Melissa Barrett (husband John) of Okmulgee, OK. He was “Gaw” to his eight grandchildren, Christopher Boyd (wife Kendyle) Alexandria, VA, Elisabeth Boyd of Sunnyvale, CA, Holden Barrett, Tulsa, OK, Rachel Gaeble (husband John), Bixby, OK, Emma Wagoner (husband Chad), Broken Arrow, OK, Asa Barrett, Tulsa, OK, Joseph Barrett, US Army, Junction City, KS, and Mason Barrett, Broken Arrow, OK; eight great grandchildren, Cidney Boyd, Asher Boyd, Sylas Boyd, Asa Boyd all of Alexandria, VA, Bryce Barrett, Tulsa, OK, Morgan Jones and Max Jones of Bixby, OK, and Elijah Barrett of Broken Arrow OK. He was also loved by many “adopted” children and grandchildren, Linda Carr of Ft. Gibson, OK, and her children being among them; several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother; two sisters; and one infant daughter, Susan Myra Boyd.
