Lola Mae Taylor

1948 - 2010

— Lola Mae Taylor, age 62, of Muskogee, Oklahoma was born in Muskogee on August 2, 1948 to Elmer and Ezella (Coffman) Smith and she passed away on October 8, 2010 at Saint Francis hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  Lola received her General Education Diploma in February of 1989 and she later attended Nursing classes at  Indian Capital Technology Center in Muskogee where she received three attendance awards, one patient controlling aggression and patient environment award, an award of honor and a Nightingale of practical nursing award.  She worked as a store clerk for Zip Trip for numerous years. Lola then moved on to work in the health care field for nine plus years.  She enjoyed fishing, taking care of others and making memories with friends and family. Lola was an exceptional woman and a joy to be around. She was admired by many and loved by more.

Lola was preceded in death by her father and mother; Elmer and Ezella Smith. One brother; Leroy Smith and one son-in-law David Armstrong. She is survived by:  Two daughters; Kelly Armstrong and Sherry Morris and husband Tommy Morris all of Muskogee. One son; Damon Morris of Muskogee. Two sisters; Billie Mullins of Keys, Oklahoma and Linda Hughes of Sweethome, Oregon. One brother; Orville Smith of Muskogee. Six grandchildren; Tabatha Armstrong, Alisa Armstrong, Bryan Morris, Falecia Morris, Sabrina Morris and Gabrielle Morris. Five great-grandchildren; David Armstrong, Darrion Armstrong, Corithian Brown, Tristian Morris, Sahvannah Morris, and a community full of others who  also loved, admired and  respected her.

The family of Lola Taylor would like to extend our sincere thanks to the staff at St. Francis Hospital of Tulsa for doing their best to help our loved one in her time of need. They would also like to thank Mike Smith at Muskogee Family Care who she trusted with her care for many years. 

 Viewing will be 10:00 A.M to 7:00 P.M Wednesday October 13, 2010 at Shipman’s Muskogee Funeral Service Chapel, 1325 N. York Muskogee, Oklahoma. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, October 14, 2010, at Lawrence Street Baptist Church with Brother John Curtis officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Damon Morris, Chad Carrier, Tommy Morris, Bryan Morris, LeRoy Huff and Glenn Brown. Arrangements are under the direction of Shipman’s Muskogee Cremation & Funeral Service.
