A.L. Gamble


A.L. Gamble, 89, of Muskogee, Oklahoma went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 26, 2013 in Muskogee with his loving family at his side. He was born September 1, 1924 in Webbers Falls, Oklahoma to Willie Fred Gamble and Georgia Davis Gamble. A.L. attended schools at Webbers Falls and Braggs. His family moved to Checotah where he would help with their family farm. He later would join the Army where he obtained the rank of Sergeant. A.L. fought during WWII in New Guinea and the Philippines. He would later receive an Honorable Discharge and was awarded a Bronze Star and Bronze Arrowhead.  

A.L. married Louise Hilton on November 29, 1946 at the Eufaula Courthouse. They celebrated 67 years of marriage. A. L. and Louise were of the Baptist faith and were currently attending New Hope Assembly of God Church with their family.  

A.L. owned his own trucking business from which he retired in 2013 when his health began to fail. He enjoyed tinkering with trucks and tractors. He also enjoyed riding horses and going hunting. A.L. always enjoyed family gatherings and cook outs, along with telling stories.  

A.L. was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him.  

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Irene Phillips; his brother, Thomas George Gamble; and his son-in-law, Leon Lackey.

A.L. is survived by his wife, Louise, of the home; his daughters, Dianna Lackey and Linda Plunkett; his sons, Rick Gamble and wife, Kay of Muskogee, Mike Gamble and wife, Whitney of Oktaha; grandchildren, Angie Totten and husband, Jeff, Melissa Dement and husband, Jodi, Brian Gamble and wife, Leah, Karaney Webster and husband, Danny, Gary Don Plunkett, Jeff Plunkett and wife, Amy, Zach Gamble, Shelby Gamble; great grandchildren, Eric Totten, Levi Totten and wife, Cassie, Bradley Fisher, Cody Fisher, Dakota and Nicholas Totten, Payton and Jaxon Webster, Madison Plunkett, Alivia and Gabriella Plunkett, Brianna Gamble, Branda Gamble, and Hunter Gamble; great great grandchildren, Landon Totten, Parker Totten; many other family members and friends.

The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Monday, December 30, 2013 at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral services celebrating A.L.’s life will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at New Hope Assembly of God Church with Rev. John Overton officiating with assistance by Rev. Cardell Coppin. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Checotah with Oliver Chambers, Bret Terapin, John Sheffield, Dean Casey, Jim Fallen, and Jerry Phillips serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Roy Raines and Cardell Coppin. Full military honors will be presented by the Fort Sill Honor Guard.
