Barbara Jane Cullins


Barbara Jane Cullins, 78 of Eufaula, passed away Thursday evening. A native of Muskogee County, Barbara was born December 15, 1935 around the Boynton Community to Roy Alva and Jewel (Osburn) Bowles. She grew up and attended schools briefly in Muskogee County before her family relocated to California with her father’s job during the war. She graduated with the class of 1953 from Avenal High School in California. After high school, she furthered her education at San Jose State in California planning to become a nurse. Barbara’s family kindly remembers how much she cared for her mother during her high school years. Her mother had become seriously ill and Barbara decided to be the caregiver for her mother until her death in 1952.  

On January 25, 1958, Barbara married the love of her life, Floyd Cullins in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In fact, Floyd and Barbara were born just 4 miles apart from each other in the Boynton Community. Their romance traveled to California and then back to Oklahoma. They celebrated over 55 years of marriage together.

Barbara’s hobbies included cooking, sewing, reading and spending time with her family.  Her family will always remember her kindness and how she took care of others.

She is preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Bill Nixon.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Floyd Cullins of Eufaula; her son, David Cullins of Tulsa; her daughter, Lori Cullins and husband Wayne Hyman of Harrisburg, PA; her granddaughter, Olivia Hyman of Harrisburg, PA; her sisters, Ruth Stanley of Ft. Smith, Arkansas, Cathy Burrell of Ft. Smith, Arkansas; her mother-in-law, Violet Toone of Muskogee; and many dear nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorial services for Barbara will be Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel, 1830 N. York Street, Muskogee, with Reverend Doug Miller officiating.
