Morris E. Stevenson

1920 – 2014

Morris E. Stevenson, 93, of Frisco, Texas, formerly of Muskogee, died Monday, January 6, 2014.  He was born in Flora, Texas on October 11, 1920 to Carl and Mae (Bearden) Stevenson.  Morris grew up in Sulphur Bluff, Texas where he graduated from Sulphur Bluff High School.

During World War II, Morris served in the U.S. Army in Europe and was awarded the Bronze Star.

On October 4, 1947, Morris and Louise Keeth married in Dallas,Texas.

They moved to Malvern, Arkansas in 1956 before settling in Muskogee in 1962.

Morris was president of Griffin Food Company from where he retired.

He was a member of First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 70 years, served on the Muskogee City Council, the YMCA Board and the Salvation Army National Board. He enjoyed running and bicycling.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Stevenson, on February 22, 2003.  He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Cecilia Stevenson of LaGrange, Georgia; daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Richard Jasin of Frisco, Texas; grandchildren, Chris Money and his wife, Candace, of Arlington, Texas; Jennifer Owens and her husband, David, of Dallas, Texas; Alan Stevenson and his wife, Joelle, of New York City; great-grandchildren, Jessica Money of Waco, Texas and Keith Money of Arlington, Texas.

The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, January 10, 2014 at Foster-Petering Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Fosters’ Ivory Chapel with Rev. Rex Wilkinson officiating.   Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
