Walter Menees of Wagoner Oklahoma moved to heaven on February 2, 2014. Walter was born in Webbers Falls, Oklahoma on August 22, 1932 to parents Leota Chastain and Walter Menees. He graduated from Webbers Falls and worked as an iron worker superintendent and inspector for John F. Beasley and National Steel Erectors of Muskogee for the duration of his working career. A veteran in the field, he continued working as a consultant to a multitude of international tower companies following retirement. Walter was married to Wanda Jean Menees (Chambers), who preceded him in death on September 6, 2007.
Walter was an Army veteran of the Korean conflict where he earned two medals. He belonged to the Iron Workers Union out of Tulsa and attended the Free Will Baptist Church of Wagoner, Oklahoma. He enjoyed collecting hats and classic cars, car shows, fishing, scuba diving, playing the guitar and learning musical instruments. Walter loved traveling the world encountering new cultures, language and knowledge. Prior to his death, he had lived and worked in 49 of the 50 states and in 9 foreign countries. He took pride in continual learning, as he could frequently be found at the local library taking classes. Walter was learning to speak Cherokee and spoke fluent Spanish.
Walter, (also known as Uncle Walt, Junior, and PawPawl), was survived by his children, Paula (Horn) Mahawon (wife of David Mahawan) of Thailand and John Menees (husband to Lori Menees) of Wagoner. He leaves behind grandchildren, Elizabeth and Matthew Menees, Misty Scott, Windy Nelson-Egeberg, and Shan and Tai Mahawan; and great grandchildren, Hunter and Haley Tedder, Timothy Scott, III, Charity, Griffin and Havanah Nelson, and Nathan, Keira, McKenzie, Levi, and Bristol Egeberg. In addition, Walter was much loved by numerous nieces and nephews, and sisters, Mildred Pittman, Charlene Points, Pauline Reeves, Goldie Chisum and brother Bill Menees. He will also be dearly missed by his beloved Boston Terrier, J.B.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Sheila Joy; and siblings, Floyd, Jerry, Herschel, Helen, Lloyd, C.R., Perry and Baby Boy Menees.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, February 6, 2014, at the Shipman Funeral Home Chapel in Wagoner and burial will follow at the Pioneer Cemetery, under the direction of Shipman Funeral Home.
