Carl Swearengin

1945-2014

Carl Swearengin, 68, of Muskogee, Oklahoma passed away from this life and entered into eternity Saturday, February 1, 2014 at his home. He was surrounded by his loved ones and the caring staff of Hometown Hospice. Carl was born October 17, 1945 to Eugene and Josephine Hubler Swearengin in Sequoyah County. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints attending services at Gore and Muskogee, serving a mission for his church in his early years.  

Carl graduated from Gore High School in 1966 and then attended barber school in Tulsa. He worked as a barber for about a year then he went to work for Norge and Whirlpool. Later, he went to work for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation where he remained employed for 28 years and retired in 2008.  

On May 25, 1974 Carl married the love of his life, Julie Ann Bennett. They were married for 38 years prior to her death on December 23, 2012. Carl was a loving husband and very devoted to her care during her time of sickness.

Carl was preceded in death by his wife, Julie; his father, Gene; his sister, Barbara Wacaster; his brothers, Jackie Swearengin and Johnnie Swearengin.  

He is survived by his wonderful and loving mother, Josephine of Gore, OK; his sister, JotaLee (Jody) Spears and husband Troy of San Antonio, TX; his brothers; Jimmy “Leon” Swearengin of Porum, OK, Bill Swearengin of Manchester, KY, Pat Swearengin and wife Glenda of Poteau, OK; his brother-in-law, Art Casey and wife Judy of Tulsa, OK.  Also left to mourn his passing, his caregivers and friends, Teresa Fairchild, Sue Howard, and Bobbi Cagle, all of Muskogee, Kay Burris of Checotah, Randy and Amber Fairchild of Muskogee, as well as the staff at Oklahoma Health Care Solutions. Carl also leaves behind a host of many friends, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles whom he loved very much and enjoyed every year attending family reunions with.

Carl will be missed dearly by everyone who knew him.  

Funeral services celebrating Carl's life will be 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with Bishop Guy Grooms presiding and conducting. Interment will follow at Stevenson Cemetery in Gore, OK with Jimmy “Leon” Swearengin, Pat Swearengin, Bill Swearengin, Tony Swearengin, Jackie Swearengin Jr., Steven Fairchild, Justin Spears, and Tex Ferguson serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Art Cacy, Don Wacaster, Troy Spears Jr., Jesse Cagle, Sean Sloan, Randy Fairchild, Jason Briley, Jacob Deckard, and Troy Spears Sr.
