Gary Dean Cox

1954 – 2011

Gary Dean Cox, of Checotah, passed away at his home on Sunday, March 27, 2011, with his family at his side, at the age of 56. Gary was born April 8, 1954, in Riverside, CA to Florence M. and Frances Lucille Cox.

Gary was raised and attended school in Moreno Valley, CA. He made his home there where he was employed as a fireman and as a blastcrete operator for United Concrete Pipe Corporation. In 1989, Gary and his family moved to Checotah, OK. Gary enjoyed the outdoors and especially liked to hunt and fish. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who cherished every moment he spent with his family and friends.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Leslie Cox and Leslie’s wife Joyce.

He is survived by his loving wife Ellen (Vernie Campbell) Cox of Checotah; one son, Michael Cox of the home; two stepsons, Brad Campbell of Porum, OK, and Danny Campbell of Fort Gibson, OK; four step-daughters, Laura Campbell Fain of Vernon, TX, Sharon Campbell of Chickasha, OK, Deana Spears and Skyla Spears of the home; two granddaughters; 11 step-grandchildren; three brothers, Ed Cox of Van Buren, MO, Carl Cox of Checotah, OK, Larry Cox of Moreno Valley, CA; one sister, Mildred Owen of Longtown, OK; two very special step daughter-in-laws, Alisha Campbell of Fort Gibson, OK, and Lacey Campbell of Porum, OK; as well as a host of other family member and friends.

A memorial service for Gary will be 2:00PM Friday, April 1, 2011 at Hampton Memorial Chapel.

Gary’s cremation and memorial service are entrusted to the care of Hampton Mortuary. Friends may share condolences with the family at www.hamptonmortuary.com.
