Lewis D. Cheek

1939 – 2013

— Lewis Donald Cheek, 73, of Muskogee, died January 14, 2013 at Eastar Health System.  He was born August 14, 1939 to William D. and Nancy Pearl (Green) Cheek in Muskogee where he attended school and graduated from Central High School with the class of 1958.  After graduation, he started earning his degree at Northeastern State University.  While in school he met and was married to Dorothy Hereden.  He finished his degree in Business Administration in 1963.  Lewis worked in Muskogee at Economy Auto Parts before beginning a long career at Fansteel where he was employed until the plant was closed. Then he worked at OG&E and Southern Electric.

Lewis was a lifelong member of Boston Avenue Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School teacher and was the Church Training Director for many years.  Also, he sang in the choir and filled in for the music minister in his absence. Lewis always loved being outside taking his son and daughter target shooting and enjoying the outdoors.

Lewis was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert D. Cheek.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Debi Cheek of Tulsa; daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Rodney Faith of Muskogee; granddaughter, Abbie Faith of Muskogee; brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Delores Cheek of Muskogee; his former loving wife, Dorothy Cheek of Tulsa; sister-in-law, Caroline Cheek of Broken Arrow; niece, Nancy Peterson of Kansas City; nephew, Edwin Cheek of Broken Arrow and niece, Ellen Street of Longmont, CO.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at Boston Avenue Baptist Church with Rev. Donnie Echols officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Cecil Howard, Bill Hereden, Ken Scott and P.A. Jones. Honorary pallbearers are Verlin Kindy, Bill Doering and Leo Andrews.

Funeral service arrangements are under the direction of Foster-Petering Funeral Home.
