John Franklin “Jiggs” Ramsey

1920 - 2013

— John Franklin “Jiggs” Ramsey, 92 year former Wainwright resident, passed away Sunday, January 13, 2013 in Ft. Gibson. Jiggs was born Wednesday, August 25, 1920 to John and Alice (Sparkman) Ramsey in Wainwright, Oklahoma. He grew up in Wainwright, graduating in 1939. Jiggs became a farmer, rancher and horseman. He met, courted, fell in love and married his sweetheart Ruby Corene Dodds in October of 1941 in Muskogee, Oklahoma. In 1960 he began working for Fansteel as a beam melt operator until his retirement 23 years later in 1983. Jiggs continued his ranching and was well known for raising quarter horses and mules. He was a member of the Church of Christ, the Okie-Arkie Trail Ride Association, the Muskogee Muleskinners as well as the Wainwright High School Alumni Association. Jiggs took pride in taking part of the building of Wainwright High School.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Ruby on Thursday, December 12, 1957; grandson Shawn Humphrey; son-in-law Jack David Hutchinson; brothers Dean Ramsey, R.B. Ramsey and Joe Phillips; sisters Crystal Crabtree and Regina Smith. Jiggs is lovingly survived by his children Sharon Kay Hutchinson of Okay, OK, Janice Thompson and her husband Bob of Bartlesville, OK, and Roy Dean Ramsey and his wife Margaret of Helena, MT; grandchildren John Hutchinson, Sheri Toney and her husband David, Sheila Mailhes and her husband Louis, Whitney Brown and her husband Brad, Michelle Shandrow and her husband Eric and Jimmy Ramsey and his wife Kim; great grandchildren Jaclyn, Kaydi, Jessica, Jordan, Hadley, Cora, Jayk, Allen and Kayla; great-great grandchildren Ace and Cash.  He is also survived by his sister Cleta Lee; his very special nephew Jackie Smith; numerous nieces, nephews, other extended family and a lifetime of friends. Viewing for Jiggs will be 9AM to 7PM, Thursday, January 17, 2013 at Garrett Family Funeral Home of Checotah with his family greeting friends from 5pm-7pm. Funeral services for Jiggs will be held at 10 AM on Friday, January 18, 2013 at Ft. Gibson Church of Christ with Mr. Budo Perry, ministering. Committal prayers and Interment will follow in Middleton Chapel Cemetery in Oktaha, under the personal direction of John Garrett. Jimmy W. Ramsey, Brad Brown, Louis Mailhes, David Toney, Tony Nichols and Tommy Allen will serve as Casket Bearers. Harold Guthrie, Jay Sullins, Tony Sullins, John Hutchinson and Chester Anderson will serve as Honorary Casket Bearers.
