Born Lucy Turner in 1929 in Pensacola, Florida, she was the youngest of three children. She was a graduate of both Rosemont Jr. College and Georgetown Visitation, where she met her husband of 30 years, Larry Rooney. From there they settled in Muskogee, Oklahoma in 1950 and had six children.

Passionate for both the fine and performing arts, Lucy was a long-time supporter of the Tulsa Philharmonic and Tulsa Opera as well as serving as a docent at the Philbrook and Gilcrease museums. She was also an avid horticulturalist and gardener. Lucy’s penchant for genealogy led her to an active role within the Daughter’s of the American Revolution (DAR). In addition, she was deeply devoted to her Catholic faith. She was involved in many Catholic organizations, including membership in the Knights of Malta and the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher. She was a supporter of St. Joseph parish and school in Muskogee, Oklahoma. She served on the board of Bacone College in Muskogee, and was active in the Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute, and St. Gregory’s in Shawnee. Her volunteerism with other Catholic and Christian causes included working with Meals on Wheels and setting up a library and reading program in prisons. Lucy was a devoted daughter, wife and mom and we will all miss her greatly.
