Tony H. Tibbs, 90, of Porter, Oklahoma, died Sunday, February 3, 2013 at Broadway Manor Nursing Home. He was born in Porter on December 11, 1922 to John William and Lucy B. (Harrington) Tibbs.
Tony graduated from Porter High School with the class of 1941. After graduation, he began working in Muskogee at the ice plant and later at Sinclair Gas Station. He joined the Marines, before being drafted, and served in Saipan, Iwo Jima and the Philippines during WWII. After returning to the states, he spent a lot of time in Los Angeles where he was employed at LA Transit. He came back to Oklahoma and went to work at Claude Riggs Upholstery in Tulsa where he stayed until his retirement. Tony was active in the Seventh Day Adventist church and served as Assistant Pastor for 20 years in Wagoner. During his retirement, Tony worked at Foster-Petering Funeral Home for many years before permanently retiring in 2008.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents, John William Tibbs and Lucy B. Tibbs, and his siblings, Annie Bumpess, Isaac William Tibbs “Dink”, Glenn Ray Tibbs, Gladys Tibbs Robertson, Tecumseh Bud Tibbs, Alta Tibbs Hiner, Eugene Tibbs, Yvonne Tibbs-Stewart and Opal Christine Tibbs.
He is survived by his wife, Lucy of the home; stepsons Harry Wright and Harold Wright; stepdaughter, Patty Gibbons and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Foster-Petering Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Vernon Cemetery in Coweta with Mr. Bill Crow officiating.
