George Franklin Durant

1941 - 2013

— George Franklin Durant, 71 longtime resident of Muskogee, passed away Saturday at his home.   

George was born on June 1, 1941 in Fort Worth, Texas to Frank Durant and Imogene Carlile Durant.  He grew up and attended schools in Texas. He was a proud member of the Choctaw Indian Nation.

As an adult, George enjoyed working as a mechanic; he particularly loved working on cars and trucks and driving race cars in the early parts of his career. He travelled between California, Arizona and Texas before making his home in Oklahoma. He considered himself a native of Oklahoma.  He loved watching car races, in particular NASCAR, on television everyday. George also enjoyed fishing and listening to country-n-western music. George loved his family very much and was proud of each of his children and grandchildren.

George was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Betty Marie and one son, Rickie Lee;   brother, Rios Virgil; sisters, Ruby and Barbara; and mother of three of his children, LaRita Durant Padilla.

Survivors include his best friend and companion, Frankie Chapman of Muskogee; two daughters, Sherry Mustain and husband Dennis of Muskogee, Gladys Durant of Muskogee; five sons, Mike Durant and wife Jan of Okay, Frank “Ed” Durant of Muskogee, Frankie Darrell Durant of Tyler, Texas; Robert Durant of Mexico; and Douglas Durant and wife Jessica of Muskogee; Mothers of his children, Lorene Douthit of Muskogee and Donna Olson of Yuma, Arizona; one sister, Fay of California; twenty-four Grandchildren and sixteen Great Grandchildren; and a host of other family members and friends.

Memorial services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, February 9, 2013, at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Carl Mustain officiating and assisted by Mike Durant.

Funeral services are under the direction of Cornerstone Funeral Home and Crematory, 1830 North York Street, Muskogee, Oklahoma. Condolences may be sent to the family at
