Pauline M. Nalley

— Pauline M. Nalley passed peacefully to heaven on September 21, 2013 at the age of 93. Known to her family and friends as “Pat”, she was born Pauline Mattie Hendrix on November 16, 1919 in Haskell, OK.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Charles W. Nalley; her parents, James E. and Claudia Elizabeth (Cooper) Hendrix; and four sisters, Loyce Cowden, Alma Ruth Beaver, Josephine Gonzales and Ruby Dan Peavler. She is survived by her only son, Charles M. Nalley, and wife, Jo Ann, of Spring Branch, TX; 3 grandchildren, Janelle Johnston of Fredrickburg, TX, Garrett Paris and wife, Lori, of Cibolo, TX, and Julie Metheny and husband, Shane of McKinney, TX; 8 great grandchildren, Madelyn, Bryce and Katy Johnston, Dylan and Rylee Paris, and Kaylee, Tyler and Hayden Metheny; nephew, Eugene Beaver and wife Kathryn of Washington State; several other nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.

She attended Wainwright High School where she played basketball. After marrying Charles in 1940, she traveled with him on his pipelining job until 1958 when she returned to Checotah. She was a manager at Murray’s Dime Store for almost 20 years, and then became a homemaker. She continued to live in the home they built in the 1950s until 2002, and lived in Checotah at the time of her death.

Pat became a Grandma in 1986 when Charles and Jo Ann married. By 1994 she was a Great-Grandma, and finally had 8 Great Grandchildren. She loved them all instantly and was always amused by their antics. She didn’t get to see them often, but she always wanted to know all about them and how much they had “growed.”

Pat loved Checotah and treasured her friends here. When she was no longer able to care for herself, no amount of coaxing could convince her to move to Texas where her family could see her more. She was even known to tell friends, “Don’t let them move me to Texas!”

One friend in particular, Donna Moore, was a God-send to Pat. These past ten years, Donna helped Pat in many ways, and also included her in many of her own family get-togethers. They became so close that Donna’s own children and grandchildren, Cindy and David Miner, Shawnda and Jeremy Ward, Tamyla Moore and Cheryl Balthrop, and Gus and Gracie Ward called her “Grandma.”

She belonged to First Free Will Baptist Church in Checotah. She was a Christian woman who read her Bible daily. She loved her church and enjoyed continuing visits from the pastor and other members once she was no longer able to attend.

A funeral celebrating the life of “Pat” will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, September 25, 2013, at First Free Will Baptist Church, 713 N. Broadway, Checotah with Charles Dunn, David Burks, Shane Metheny and Jeremy Ward serving as pallbearers. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Checotah. Viewing will be Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at Checotah Funeral Service, 211 W. Okmulgee. Family will greet friends from 6-8 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Free Will Baptist Church or Hope Hospice, 2913 Azalea Park Drive, Muskogee, OK 74401.

The family has entrusted Checotah Funeral and Cremation Service with the arrangements. Friends may send condolences to the family at
