Edna Geneva Chambers

1921-2013

Momma, NO MORE PAIN, You are resting comfortably in the arms of Jesus.

Edna Geneva Chambers of Muskogee passed away from this life to her new heavenly home on October 10, 2013. She lived in Muskogee for over seventy years. Edna was born on May 7, 1921 in Sallisaw, Oklahoma. She was the oldest daughter of seven children born to Mike and Julia Scoggins. She grew up in McClain, Oklahoma. At the time of her death Edna was 92 years old.

Edna married Charles F. Chambers on March 30, 1940. They were married sixty-two years, nine months and one day, and to that marriage there were three children born. Barbara Johnson of Muskogee. Twins, Donna Garland of Muskogee and John F. Chambers of Flower Mound, Texas.

Edna was preceded in death by her husband Charley on January 1, 2003, her parents, brothers Ray Scoggins, Jim Henry Scoggins and John D. Scoggins, sister-in-laws Ruth Scoggins and Marcia Scoggins, father-in-law Marvin F. Chambers, brother-in-law Joe Cookson, son-in-law Terry Garland and grand-daughter Tonya Johnson.

Besides her children Edna is survived by six grandchildren, Dan Earl Johnson and son Trey of Muskogee, Michael Houston Johnson and family of Fort Gibson, Tracy Garland Etchison and family of Muskogee, Todd Garland and family of Muskogee, Jonathan David Chambers of Guilin, China and Kimberly Elizabeth Chambers of Oklahoma City. Great grandchildren, Michael Johnson Jr. Mariah Johnson, Whitney Johnson, Avery Etchison, Seth Garland, Patrick Scott. Two great great grandsons, Austen Lee Torix and Noah Alexander Johnson. Edna is also survived by her sisters Mary Armstrong and husband Chuck of Spiro, Josephine Collier and husband David of Oktaha, her brother Charles L. Scoggins of Muskogee, her sister-in-law Vera Cookson of Fort Gibson and numerous nieces and nephews.

Edna was a member of Calvary Baptist Church for over thirty five years where she taught Sunday School.

The family wishes to thank Pleasant Valley Health Care Center staff and Hope Hospice.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, October 14, 2013 at Cornerstone Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at Calvary Baptist Church with Bill Crow officiating. Pallbearers for Mrs. Chambers will be her grandsons and great-grandsons with honorary pallbearers being Edna’s brother Charles L. Scoggins and her brother-in-laws David Collier and Chuck Armstrong. Edna will be laid to rest next to her husband Charley at McClain Cemetery.
