Ruby Mae Bookout, of Muskogee, Oklahoma, passed away Wednesday, December 18, 2013, surrounded by members of her family at the age of 84. She was born June 30, 1929 in Mulberry, Arkansas to George Adam Nail and Lillie Mae Glass Nail. Ruby’s family moved to Oklahoma at an early age where she grew up and attended public schools.
She married her sweetheart, JR Bookout, on December 25, 1948 in Ft. Gibson, Oklahoma. Ruby and JR had shared 46 years of marriage when he passed away in April of 1995.
Ruby and JR traveled and worked between Oklahoma and California until 1965 when they bought their family home and settled in the Okay community of Wagoner County. Ruby loved working outside harvesting the fruits and vegetables she grew in her garden.
Ruby had several jobs during her lifetime, but her favorite was caring for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her brothers, Charlie Nail, Frankie Nail, and Johnny Nail; her sisters, Myrtle Morgan, Lula Mae Falwell, and Deanie Byfield.
Ruby is survived by her children, Donna Bookout, Issac Bookout and wife, Rosmari, Larry Bookout and wife, Brenda, all of Okay; her grandchildren, Jeff Bookout and wife, Kim of Okay, Mechele Cruz and husband, Sonny of Muskogee, Barbara Climer, the mother of her grandchildren; great grandchildren, Samantha Ballard and husband, Bradley of Muskogee, Bethany Bookout of Okay, Tyler Hopson of Muskogee; great great grandchild, Keela Ballard of Muskogee; and her special little buddy, Kris Weeden of Copperas Cove, TX; her brother, Ray Nail and wife, Linda of Coweta; her sister, Doris Rankins and husband, William of Wagoner; numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
Funeral services celebrating Ruby’s life will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 21, 2013 at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Delbert Hawpe officiating.
