Velma Lee Moore

1932 – 2010

Velma Lee Moore, deceased November 1, 2010 to meet God and the Angels in Heaven. Born December 18, 1932 in Highlandville, Missouri where she lived until she was in her early teenage years, then moved to Westville, Oklahoma where she attended some of her school years. Her family then moved to Muskogee, Oklahoma where she went to school at Central High School until she had to go to work to help support her siblings during her 9th grade year.

She worked at the Blue Grill Café in Muskogee where she met Walter Leroy Moore, her husband.  She worked at Brockway Glass in Muskogee for a while, and at Huber Hotel Coffee Shop, and Shackelford Coffee Shop as a cook and waited tables.

She and Walter were married August 19, 1950, started a family, then bought a piece of property in 1956 on the west side of town called Joe Paul’s Corner on Old Taft Road and 74th Street. This is where she resided until death.

Her hobbies included:  crocheting, flower arranging, sewing, collecting angels, cooking, canning, gardening, raising cattle and children. She also dedicated a lot of her time doing volunteer work at the Mt. View Fire Department doing fund raisers and dinners to help raise money. She also loved children, when the Children’s Center was in Taft, she would schedule for some of the children to come to the house for ball games and cookouts. She also volunteered at Grace Living Center helping with activities and dinners. She also bought gifts for all the residents who resided there.  She also liked to collect handicapped equipment and give to the ones who could not afford to buy.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Una Tatum Wilkie, father, John Tatum, sisters, Barbra Jackson, Ula Rice, and Cordia James, brothers, Odie Tatum and Jess Tatum. Surviving family include: Walter Moore, husband, of the home; twelve children, Carrollyn Sparks, Bessie Coats, Christine Stice, Rosetta Lambrecht, Roy Moore, Burnadine Wiedel, Charlott Braden, Maxine Gulley, Malcolm Moore, Rosemarie Pratt, Deborah Moore, and Elizabeth Osburn; seven sons-in-law and Matt Fewel; one daughter-in-law; 52 grandchildren, 61 great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Billy Jean Willis and Betty Jean Cole, and one brother, Neal Tatum.

Services will be Monday November 8, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at the First Baptist Church.

The family has entrusted Bradley Family Funeral Service of Muskogee with the arrangements. Friends may send condolences to the family on the web page
