Gloria Jean Craft-Thompson

1948 - 2014

On May 1, 1948, an angel was born to Zephaniah Craft Sr. and Willie Mae Wright- Craft. Gloria was the first child born to this union.    

Gloria was born and raised in Muskogee, Oklahoma, and accepted Christ at an early age at Central Missionary Baptist Church. She was affectionately known as “Craft.” She graduated from Manual Training High School in 1966. Gloria was crowned “Miss Manual” and proudly represented her class as a faithful alumnus. Upon graduation from high school, she attended Langston University and received a Bachelor's of Science in Education on May 24, 1970. She later received her Master's of Education from Central State University in 1974, and obtained her Administrative Certification in 2002.  

On May 15, 1969, Gloria married her college sweetheart Keith Nolan Thompson and two beautiful daughters; LaShawn and LaTashia were born to this union. She was a loving wife to her knight and shining armor, until he was called home to be with Jesus.  

Gloria was a dedicated educator with the Oklahoma City Public Schools for thirty-five years.  She was deeply devoted to all of her students and played a huge role in shaping their lives. Gloria received several accolades for her professional achievements and was recognized as “Teacher of the Year” at Longfellow Elementary. Gloria's platform for learning was “Challenges are best overcome with the support of a caring teacher.”

Gloria's special interest and hobbies included raising a family and caring for God's creations through gardening. She loved the game of tennis and was an active member of the OKC Tennis Group. Gloria’s grandchildren were the spark of her life; she enjoyed watching them play football and basketball. Gloria took great pleasure in cooking and entertaining family and friends in her home. She was a member of Wildewood Christian Church and worked in different capacities throughout her tenure there. Gloria loved her family and was the matriarch to all of her siblings. She was the fabric that wove her family together. Her daughter’s friends would refer to her as “Sweet Glo” because of the kindness shown while visiting her home.     

On Friday, June 6, 2014, the Lord called her from labor to restful reward. Gloria was preceded in death by her mother, Willie Mae Wright-Craft, husband Keith Nolan Thompson, and her brother Ernest Craft.

Her life will be fondly remembered by her daughters, LaShawn Thompson (Harold), and LaTashia Thompson of Oklahoma City; her grandchildren, Tarez Easley Jr. and Janiah Bowers of Oklahoma City, Cecilia Thompson of Everett, Washington and Harold Thompson Jr., of Tulsa. Her father Zephaniah Craft Sr. of Muskogee, her siblings: Zephaniah Craft Jr. of Tacoma, Washington, Shirley Burton (Ted) of Muskogee, Wilma Jones (Arthur) of Lawton, Richard Craft (Josie) of Muskogee, Archie Craft Sr. (Pat) of Houston, Texas, Vinita Smith (Patrick) of Guthrie, David Craft of San Antonio, Texas, Pat Barrera (Jesus) of Hawaii, Anthlia Craft of Tulsa, Felecia Manning (Terrance) of Norman, June Craft of Norman, and Sarai Thomas (James) of Dallas, Texas; a devoted brother-in-law Gerard Thompson (Marjorie) of Oklahoma City, her childhood sister-friend Gladys Martin (Eugene) of Tulsa, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.   

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not to thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy path.
