Edward “Ed” Thompson Jr., 79, of Muskogee, passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2014 in Muskogee following a period of illness.
Ed was born September 22, 1934 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Henry Edward Sr. and Frances Christien (Lungren) Thompson. He attended the University of Tulsa for two years where he was in the U.S. Air Force ROTC. He graduated from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah. Ed worked for the Stewart Business Forms Company as a salesman and worked for Securitas in Tulsa as a security guard. He married Carolyn Youngblood in 1975 in Tulsa and the couple lived at Snug Harbor on Fort Gibson Lake before moving to Muskogee.
Ed was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. His passion was duck hunting and singing in church choirs. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Muskogee.
Ed is survived by his wife Carolyn of the home; two step-daughters, Alycia K. Stevens of Tulsa, and Theresa M. Barnard of New Orleans, LA; step-son, Grover D. Barnard and wife Mary of Muskogee; grandchildren, Christian Barnard and wife Erica of Tulsa, Michael Barnard of Tulsa, and Matthew Stevens and wife Ashlee of Hastings, NE; great-grandchildren, Nya Barnard and Remi Barnard of Tulsa; niece, Suzanne Crabtree of Tulsa; nephew, Larry McFadden and wife Pat of Tulsa and extended family and friends.
Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 24, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Jack Kemper officiating. Interment will follow at a later date in Greenhill Cemetery. Gifts in lieu of flowers can be made in Ed’s memory to First United Methodist Church, 600 E. Okmulgee, Muskogee, OK 74403.
