Romon James Washington

On April 29, 1959, in Muskogee, OK., Bennie and Bernice Washington were blessed with the sixth of seven children, Romon James.  At a very early age, he professed a hope in Christ and was baptized at Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church.  Beginning at age 5 he sang in church and continued throughout his life.  He also sang tenor, and in later years, bass with his siblings as “The Washington Family Singers.”  He later moved his membership to Central Missionary Baptist Church, singing in the choir and Brotherhood Chorus until his health began to fail.

Romon graduated from Muskogee High School with the class of 1977.  In early adult days, he worked as a Muskogee Public Schools custodian.  Later, he became a self-employed small engine repairman.  He never married, and had no children.  Romon went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 15, 2014.

His parents, paternal grandparents, Gus (Washington) Williams and Annie Morrow; maternal grandparents, Rev. Albert Robert Lee and Sarah Channie (Barnett) Lee all proceeded him in death.

He leaves in God’s care, brothers Clifton, Bennie Jr., and Rev. Jerry Washington all of Muskogee.  Sisters Benzola & Glenn Sheppard, Beatrice & Walter Lewis both of Tulsa, Marsha & Floyd Newton, Muskogee.  One aunt, Maxine Lee of Katy, TX., and many nephews, nieces, cousins and other relatives and friends.  Final services will be Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. at Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, with Rev. Van Brown as host pastor.  Rev. Ray K. Gaines, pastor of Central Missionary Baptist Church, officiating, Rev. Jerry Washington, Eulogist.  Interment following, Booker T. Washington Cemetery.

Visitation hours are today from 1:00 PM until 6:00 PM.  Services are under the direction of Ragsdale Funeral Center.
