Samarian “Mary” Jean Sulphur Harrison

1933 - 2013

Samarian “Mary” Jean Sulphur Harrison, 79, of Muskogee, Oklahoma passed away Monday, April 22, 2013 with her loving family at her side.  

She was born July 27, 1933 in Eufaula, Oklahoma to Alec Sulphur and Fannie Hill Sulphur. “Mary” attended Mountain View and Carter Seminary. She married Addison Harrison on December 24, 1953 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma at the Okmulgee Baptist Church.  “Mary” was a member of Butler Creek Baptist Church and also was affiliated with 1st Indian Baptist Church and Fife Memorial.  She also enjoyed listening to quartets, watching her stories, playing bingo, visiting with friends, playing volleyball and softball, and going to church.

“Mary” was preceded in death by her parents, Alec and Fannie Sulphur; her husband, Addison Harrison; her brothers, Alex, Joseph, Monroe Sulphur; and her grandson, Brendan Brady.

“Mary” is survived by her daughters, Marquetta “Quetta” Harrison of Muskogee, Anita Green and husband, Daniel of Wainwright, Marcia Prado of Broken Arrow, OK., and “Jo” Proctor and husband, Terry of Wagoner; her sister, Billie Mae Scott of Bristow, OK.; her sisters-in-law, Lillie Boen and husband, Kirby, Hilly Harjo, all of Wainwright; her grandchildren, Shane Turner, Aleisha Turner, Jennifer Smith, Jame’ Hooper and wife, Ashley, Mike Harrison, Michelle Chavez, Keith (Sonny) Brady, Kayla Washington and husband, Chris, Marissa Proctor, Terryn Proctor, Evan Evans, Cameron Proctor, and Katy Newton; 26 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews;  her special friends, Charlie, Mary, Mattie, Pat, and Hazel; her adoptive son, Marvin Thin Elk; and her neighborhood kids, Gary and Johnny Dillion, Gary Hensley, Jerry  and Sue Ann Jenkins; other family members and friends.

A wake service will be 7-9 p.m., Thursday, April 25, 2013 at Butler Creek Baptist Church in Oktaha, Oklahoma.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 26, 2013 at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Norman Daniel and Rev. Jerry Byrd officiating.  Interment will follow at Fort Gibson National Cemetery with Shane Turner, Keith Brady, Jame’ Hooper, Cameron Proctor, Mike Harrison, and Thompson Hornett serving as pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearers will be Marvin Thin Elk, Daniel Green, Kirby Boen, Terry Proctor, and Jeff Brady.

The family would like to express a very special “Thank You” to the staff of Eastgate Village B-Hall aides and nurses; and Hometown Hospice.
