Everett Eddie Clinkenbeard of Fort Gibson, OK, died in Tahlequah, OK, Thursday, April 10, 2014. Everett was born on June 7, 1930 in Braggs, OK, to Lloyd and Gladys Clinkenbeard. He was the fifth of the eleven Clinkenbeard children to survive into adulthood. He attended Greenleaf School until his family moved to Fort Gibson. After graduating high school in 1949, he left for the west coast where he was recruited as a pitcher for the San Francisco Seals. Being homesick for his sweetheart, he soon returned to Fort Gibson and married Barbara Rozzell on December 22, 1950.
On March 9, 1951, Everett was inducted into the army. He served in Korea as a personnel administrative assistant for nearly two years.
Upon his return to Fort Gibson, Everett went to work for Pete Jones Plumbing in Muskogee. In the late 1960’s he and Barbara purchased and operated the PEMCO Gasoline Station in Fort Gibson. Everett eventually went to work for the Army Corps of Engineers as a hydro power plant operator at the Fort Gibson Dam from which he retired after giving over thirty years of service.
Everett was always an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed pheasant hunting with family and friends and “Jack” the dog until his late seventies. He also enjoyed fishing and gardening and was an “American Picker” long before it became popular. In his later years he spent a considerable amount of time watching westerns and even the occasional soap opera. Without a doubt though, his favorite past time was visiting with people. He truly never met a stranger.
Everett was a member of the Fort Gibson Bible Church, the American Legion Post 0020, the Board of Directors for Rural Water District #7, and a retired member of the Fort Gibson Fire Department.
Preceding him in death are his parents; brothers, Ray, Leroy, and Donald Wayne Clinkenbeard; and sisters, Lois Palmer and Christine Cawthorne.
Everett is survived by his wife, Barbara of the home; daughter, Kaye Lynn Polivka of Las Vegas, Nevada; son, Rod Clinkenbeard also of Las Vegas, Nevada; son, Brad Clinkenbeard and wife, Linda, of Fort Gibson; grandson, Jared Clinkenbeard and his children, Isis and Sebastian, all of Muskogee; grandson, Adam Clinkenbeard and wife, Brandy, and children, Karleigh, Samuel, Anna, and Benjamin of Owasso, OK.
