Funeral services for David Lee Walker, 78, of Oktaha, OK, will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at the Trinity Baptist Church in Oktaha with Reverend D. Van Washington officiating. Burial will be in Middleton Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Lescher-Millsap Funeral Home.
David was born March 17, 1936 at Oktaha, OK, the son of Jesse E. and Ruby R. (James) Walker and died Thursday, May 1, 2014 at Tulsa. He graduated from Oktaha High School in 1955, and worked for Walkers Funeral Home while attending high school. On September 9, 1960 he married Ima L. Hall. From 1955 to 1963 he served in the U. S. Navy. After leaving the Navy, he worked at Tasty Bread in Muskogee till they closed and then worked at Wonder Bread in Tulsa for 22 years till he retired. He was a rancher and served as mayor of Oktaha for several years.
David enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He attended church in Oktaha at the Trinity Baptist Church. David will be missed as a father, brother, uncle, and friend.
Survivors include his four children, Ima J. Peper and husband, Gary, of Adair, David L. Walker and wife, Carla, Donna L. Slay and husband, Jeffery, and Daniel L. Walker all of Oktaha; brother, Jimmy E. Walker of Hayfork, CA; two sisters, Doris I. Bullard and Barbara A. Coker and husband, Paul, all of Oktaha; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ima L. (Hall) Walker; parents, Jesse and Ruby Walker; two brothers, William M. Walker and Andrew J. Walker; and great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Lynn Boyle.
