Mary Frances Thomson, 84, a lifetime resident of Muskogee, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2014 at her home. She was born February 28, 1930 in Muskogee to Earnest “Red” and Maude (Robinson) Hughes. She grew up and attended the public schools and graduated from Muskogee Central High School with the class of 1948.
In January of 1949, she married the love of her life, John Paul Thomson in Muskogee. Paul and Frances made their home in Muskogee. They celebrated many years of marriage together. Her hobbies included painting, rose gardening and sewing; one of her favorite pastimes however was playing bridge at the Muskogee Kiwanis Center.
Frances worked for several years as a telephone operator before she began working in healthcare. She worked in Dr. Fullenwider's optometrist office before she began her career with Muskogee Regional Medical Center, now known as Eastar. She enjoyed her career at M.R.M.C. as a purchasing clerk before her retirement. Her family also remembers she also worked with the Muskogee Daily Phoenix and as a realtor. She was a member of Boulevard Christian Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul; and her brothers, Richard, Jewel and Jack Hughes.
Frances is survived by her son, Gary Thomson and wife, Susan of Muskogee; grandchildren, Gary Paul Thomson and wife Jamie of Collinsville, Kasey Thomson of Muskogee, Kim Mente and husband, Steve of Texas, Toby Inge of Tulsa, Joey Roberts of Georgia, Gena Whitaker and husband Matt of Muskogee, Shelby Douglas and husband Chris of Muskogee; 12 great grandchildren; special nieces and nephews, Melony Grovener, Marsha Wiseman, Cindy Miller, Craig Hughes, Gerald Hughes and Tony Miller; sisters-in-law, Lillie Hughes and Ann Roe; other family members and friends.
Funeral services for Frances will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at Cornerstone Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Steve Moss officiating. Interment will be in Greenhill Cemetery.
