Jay Michael “Mike” Gugello, 61, longtime resident of Muskogee, passed away Friday afternoon, May 2, 2014, with his family by his side. He was born September 6, 1952 to Pete and Mary (Tyrrell) Gugello in Carbondale, Illinois. Family and friends knew him as “Mike.” His family moved to Muskogee when “Mike” was young when his father began working for Egan Manufacturing. He graduated from Muskogee High School with the class of 1971.
After high school, Mike enlisted with the United States Army. He faithfully served his country until his Honorable Discharge in 1979. He then began his career in sales. He worked several years selling cars in the Muskogee/Ft. Gibson area. For many years he owned FTG Motors in Ft. Gibson. In 2003, Mike moved to San Antonio, Texas and furthered his career selling cars. He was the General Manager for Mission Mitsubishi of San Antonio until 2012, when he moved back to the Muskogee area.
Mike's hobbies included playing golf, watching and coaching all kinds of sports. He loved playing sports and being involved with his children and grandchildren playing sports. His family kindly remembers that Mike made sports a family affair in which they enjoyed doing together. In fact, Mike holds the record for the most stolen bases in baseball at Muskogee High School. In addition to playing and watching sports, he enjoyed travelling and spending time with his grandkids. His family fondly recalled while he lived in San Antonio, Texas how he would come back to Muskogee to spend time with his children and grandchildren and how he made that a priority in his life.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Steve Gugello.
Mike is survived by his children; son, Michael Gugello, two daughters, Wendy Gugello and Gina Gugello all of Muskogee; his grandchildren, Cyle Gugello, Blake Cooper and Jaelnn Cooper all of Muskogee; the mother of his children, Debbie McFarland and husband Rick of Muskogee; one sister, Carol Clutter and husband, Jimmy of Muskogee; several nieces, nephews and other family members.
