Reverend General Aurdverl (GA) James

1922 - 2013

— A long-time resident of Muskogee and founder of Timothy Baptist Church, GA went to be with our dear Lord and Savior on January 10, 2013. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary B. James, parents Alfred H. and Vertie C. James, brothers Houston and Jimmy James, daughter-in-law Faye Ashwood James and grandson Edward Earle Peyton.

Born December 21, 1922, in the community of Tahlequah, Cherokee County, Oklahoma, GA was one of five children. He married his true love, Mary Belle James in Tahlequah, Oklahoma in 1940. He and Mary had almost 70 years together before her passing. The Lord blessed them with three loving children; Daughter, Barbara J. Giles of Norman, OK, son and daughter-in-law, Jerry R. and Debbie James of Muskogee, and daughter, Jeanette Morgan of Tulsa.

GA is survived by his children and 8 loving grandchildren and their spouses, 10 great grandchildren and their spouses, and 3 great-great grandchildren who will miss their Papa/Papall dearly. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Eugene and Luedeen James of Florida, his sister and brother-in-law, Elsie Marie and Buddy Stubbs of Ft. Gibson, OK, his sister-in-law, Bonnie (Carrah) James of Arkansas, beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Brother James was a Southern Baptist minister in the state of Oklahoma for over 70 years. He pastored in Hulbert, Crescent Valley, Webbers Falls, Muskogee, and Wagoner. He lived what he preached and always had a song to sing. Music was a James family heritage and GA had a great love for gospel music. Many friends and family members will remember the singing and praying GA initiated before allowing them to leave his home. He was accomplished in many things. He built his homes and a few churches and was known as a mechanic as well as a carpenter. Above all, he was a dedicated servant of God. GA was quick to tell others about Jesus, and ready to help anyone in need. He will be missed by many relatives, friends and neighbors.

Special thanks go out to those attending to GA's needs while in the Eastgate Village Health Care Center in Muskogee.

Funeral Services will be held at Timothy Baptist Church at 11 am on Tuesday, January 15, 2013, with a reception to follow in the fellowship hall. Interment will be at Memorial Cemetery but there will not be a grave-side service. Public viewing will be held at Bradley Funeral Home in Muskogee on Sunday the 13th from 1 pm to 8 pm and Monday the 14th, from  8 am to 8 pm.

The family has entrusted Bradley Family Funeral Service of Muskogee with the arrangements.
