Joyce Mann Wright

1927 - 2013

— Joyce was born in Shidler, OK to Wilfred Russell Mann and Ruby Chell Mann. Joyce graduated from Okmulgee High School. She received her associates’ degree from William Woods College in Fulton, MO. She went on to earn her B.A. in journalism from the University of Oklahoma. While at O.U. she was a member and officer of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. Joyce and William Edward Wright were married in 1951. As a professional Joyce worked at Grace Episcopal Church as the secretary for over 30 years. She was also an administrative secretary to Christian Children’s Fund with Charlie Soap and Wilma Mankiller, Former Chief of the Cherokee Nation. While working there the organization helped over 25,000 children in the United States. Joyce retired in 1997. 

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, husband and son, William Edward Wright, Jr. She is survived by her daughters, C.C. Leuszler and husband Richard of Oklahoma City and Winnie Porterfield and husband Garland of Oklahoma City; brothers, Burton and Kenneth Mann of Okmulgee and Bill Mann of Agana, Guam; grandchildren, Kelly Leuszler and wife Kimberleigh of Tampa, FL; Allison Robertson and husband Adam of Tulsa, OK; Meredith Robinson and husband J.B. of Edmond, OK; Taylor Burns and husband Shane of Evans Mills, NY; Katelyn Hudson and husband Evan of Guthrie, OK; and Jessie Porterfield of Boulder, CO; as well as 7 great-grandchildren, Will,  Owen and Colin Robertson, Cevan and Grey Leuszler, Charlie and Addison Robinson; and lifelong friend Virginia Lipotich. 

Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 2nd at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Oklahoma City. An additional memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 3rd at Grace Episcopal Church in Muskogee, Oklahoma. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Grace Episcopal Church in Muskogee.
