W. Gene Tinnin

1938 - 2014

Wanda Gene Tinnin of Fort Gibson, OK went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 surrounded by her family at home after a six year battle with breast cancer.

Gene was born August 31, 1938 in Waco, TX. In 1956 she graduated from Central High School in Muskogee, OK and on December 28, 1956 she married the love of her life, Tom Tinnin. They were blessed with four cherished children whom they raised in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Throughout their 57 year marriage they worked together in their business, Tinnin Construction, building homes in California, Idaho, North Carolina and Oklahoma. Gene was bookkeeper and interior designer in the business.

She enjoyed traveling and RVing with her husband and had been to every state and cruised through Europe. She especially loved to vacation in California re-visiting places they had lived and seeing family and friends from years past. They built memories with each grandchild by taking them on their own 30 day RV trip.

Gene came to know the Lord Jesus as her personal savior at the age of 9 and her goal in life to the very end was to be a testimony of God’s mercy and grace to everyone she came in contact with. Her service to Christ was her passion and she leaves behind a lasting and  far-reaching spiritual legacy.

She was active in ministry in every church she attended over the years teaching Sunday School and Good News Clubs, singing in the choir, always serving others and mentoring new believers. She will be remembered for her warm smile, kind heart, giving spirit, and genuine gift of mercy in every situation and with every person. Gene will be missed by so many and emulated by those she impacted.

Gene was preceded in death by her father, Arthur Lee Garrett; mother, Lila Mae Dawson; and sister, Lila L. Rogers. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Tom J. Tinnin; children, David Tinnin;, Becky and George Faught; Diane and Mike Maples; Stephen and Beth Tinnin; grandchildren, Tyler and Rachelle Faught, Trevor Bural, Katy and Nathan Coe, Jamison and Kristen Faught, Marissa Maples, Savannah Faught, Amelia Tinnin, Ethan Tinnin, Eden Maples, and SSG Michael Maples; great grand-daughters, Liberty DeShazo, Lola Coe, and Baby Coe arriving in November; nephews and nieces, Bill and Darcy Kent, Jeff and Lisa Kent and a host of other family and countless friends.

Gene’s generous and giving spirit was again demonstrated as her body was donated  to the OU Health Sciences Center.

Her Homegoing Celebration will be held Saturday, June 21, 2014 at 2:00pm at New Hope Baptist Church in Muskogee officiated by her pastor, Bro. Steven Alexander and nephew, Bill Kent.

Gene requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made to The Gideons International for the purchase of Bibles and the spreading of the Gospel. Her life's goal was to please her Lord and Savior and she lived out one of her favorite sayings: “Only one life, ’twill soon be past, Only what’s done for Christ will last.” To God be the glory!
