— Betty Lou Whitten, 86, of Muskogee, passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2013 in Muskogee Regional Medical Center.  

She was born February 24, 1927 in Muskogee to the late C.P. and Ellen Starnes.  She married Jack Whitten, Jr. In 1948 and this past June 4th had celebrated 65 years of marriage. She and Jack have been members of Central Baptist Church their entire married life.

In early adulthood, she served as Central Baptist Church secretary to Dr. George Boston and Minister of Music Gene Bartlett. Later she was a stenographer and switchboard operator at Corning Glass Works until 1961. She remained a loving wife, mother and grandmother throughout her life.

She is survived by her husband, Jack Whitten, of the home; sister, Mary Thielen of Little Rock, Ark.; son, Barry, and wife Jeannie of Tulsa; daughter, Marsha Lines, and husband Robert of Enid; son, Rodger, and wife Barbara of Wrightwood, CA; eight grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and many dear friends.

Funeral services will be held at Central Baptist Church on Monday, July 8th; at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend J. T. Carvell, Reverend Martin Thieln, and Reverend Phil Whitten officiating. Graveside services will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Central Baptist Church Celebrate Recovery Program. Visitation hours are Sunday 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.; the family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
