David Ronald Martin

1948 - 2014

Funeral services for David Ronald Martin, 65, of Fort Gibson, OK, will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at Lescher-Millsap Funeral Home Chapel in Muskogee with Budo Perry officiating. Pallbearers will be Mitch Espe, Gerald Walkingstick, Rory Montgomery, John Stone, Randy Martin, and Scott Russell. Burial will be in Fort Gibson National Cemetery.

David was born June 4, 1948 at Muskogee, OK, the son of Frank Roland and Nancy Elizabeth (Stone) Martin and died Thursday, February 6, 2014 at Muskogee. On September 29, 1971 he married Shirley Wright in Muskogee. During the Vietnam War, David proudly served his country in the U. S. Marine Corps. He was a talented carpenter who did beautiful woodwork and prior to retirement worked as a maintenance supervisor. David was a member of Christian Chapel in Muskogee.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Shirley of the home; children, Alicia Salyer of Henryetta, Curtis Tyner and wife, Angela, of Okay, Christina Crowder and husband, Bryan, of Fort Gibson; seven grandchildren, Katlynd Shearrer, Christian Shearrer, Kelsey Shearrer, Caleb Mustin, Jennifer Bowden, Bethany Russell and husband, Chris, and Chase David Crowder; one great-grandchild, Maverick Russell; twin brother, Jack Martin of Broken Arrow; sister, Frankie Martin of Battlefield, MO; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by sisters, Deloris “Babe” Hilton, Laverne “Sweetie” Collins, Barbara Jean McConaghie, and Willa Dean Hoffmeyer.

David had a special place in his heart and home for animals of all kinds, and he always made sure his family and friends knew how much he loved them through acts of kindness or words. He will be missed by all who knew him. The precious memories he gave us will comfort us in the days ahead.
