Roberta Lynn Whyman-Brook, 64, of Muskogee, Oklahoma, passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2014 in Muskogee, Oklahoma. She was born April 5, 1949 in Cheboygan, Michigan, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Whyman. Roberta moved to Muskogee where she worked as a police officer for the Muskogee Police Department. She was the first woman promoted to the rank of Sergeant and she was the 1988 Police Officer of the Year. She also served as a hostage negotiator and was dedicated in supporting the Muskogee WISH program. Roberta retired as a captain in 2006 after 26 years of service at the Muskogee Police Department.
Roberta is survived by her husband, Rodney Brook and her daughter, Tanya Brook, both of Muskogee; her sister, Barbara Whyman of Ventura, CA; and her brother, John Scott Whyman of Vivian, LA.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Russell Whyman; her mother, Geraldine Whyman; her Aunt Ola Wentworth; and her father, John Whyman.
Funeral service for Roberta will be 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 19 at Muskogee First Assembly, 3100 Gulick, Muskogee, Oklahoma with Reverend Tom Shelton officiating. Interment will follow at Brushy Mountain Cemetery with the Muskogee Police Department Honor Guard serving as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Isbell, Tim Gibson, Johnny Tehee, David Lyons, Rex Eskridge, Mike Shoemake, Randy Perryman, and Henry Sharp.
