Taylor Sizemore Jr.


Taylor Sizemore, Jr., 85 year old Checotah resident, passed away peacefully, on Sunday, January 26, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 21, 1928 in Texanna, OK to Taylor and Vinnie (Sisemore) Sizemore. Taylor grew up in rural Checotah on his family farm. He attended school in Checotah where he graduated from high school in 1948. After graduation, he continued helping his dad on the farm. Taylor married the love of his life, Helen Hembree on May 8, 1951 in Van Buren, Arkansas. He went to work for Frame Lumber for about 10 years. He later went to work for Muskogee Iron Works, retiring in 1981. After retiring he went back to farming, ranching, and working as a school bus driver for Checotah public school. Taylor enjoyed walking his dogs, planting a garden and visiting with his friends at the County Store. He was a member of the Checotah Masonic Lodge #86 and The First Baptist Church of Checotah. Taylor will be deeply missed by all who loved and knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents; an Infant son Jack Taylor Sizemore; his daughter, Jill Chaney on March 7, 2013. Taylor is lovingly survived by his wife of 62 years, Helen of the home; a son Glenn Sizemore and his wife Claudine of Checotah; three grandchildren, Mark Johnston of Tecumseh, Brian Chaney and his wife Lisa, Heather Hood and her husband Nick and a son-in-law, Alan Chaney  all of Altus. Also surviving is a great-grandson, Brian “Charles” Chaney, of Altus; a sister, Betty Myers of Oklahoma City, other extended family and a lifetime of friends.  Services celebrating the life of Taylor will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 29, 2014 in the Serenity Chapel of Garrett Family Funeral Home, with Reverend J. Ingram, of First Baptist Church of Eufaula, ministering. A scattering of Taylor's ashes will be held privately by his family.
