SFC (Retired) Billy “Wayne” Goad


SFC (Retired) Billy “Wayne” Goad, 70, of Muskogee, Oklahoma passed away Friday, January 24, 2014 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was born March 28, 1943 in Ft. Sill, Oklahoma to Pearl Verlon Goad and Murble Bennett Goad.  Wayne grew up in Lawton, Oklahoma where he attended Lawton High School and graduated with the class of 1961.  He worked in the construction field until the summer of 1963 when he enlisted with the United States Army. He was a member of the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment /Blackhorse, serving in Korea, Germany, and Viet Nam. Wayne received many awards and medals including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Four Service Stars, Purple Heart, Two overseas service bars, Bronze Star Medal with First Oak Leaf, Driver's Badge, Presidential Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal Fourth Award, Valorous Unit Award, Sharpshooter, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation with Palm. He received an Honorable medical retirement in 1978. Wayne began working Civil Service in 1982-1991 with the Ft. Sill Readiness Group as a recruiter and career counselor. He decided he wanted to be closer to his family so he moved to Muskogee and went to work for Whitlock Packaging in 1992-2002. In 2007, Wayne worked for the Muskogee Department of Veteran Affairs until 2009 when he decided to retire.

Wayne loved to fish with his grandkids and spend time with his family.  He was an active member of the Muskogee Cruzin' Angels Car Club.  

Wayne was loved by many and will be truly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Pearl Verlon and Murble J. Goad; his son, Thomas Ray Goad; and his brother, Clifton R. Goad.

Wayne is survived by his daughter, Waynette Gatlin of Muskogee; his son, Marcus Goad of California; his sisters, Joan Goad Taylor and husband Rick of Tulsa, Linda Goad Doughty and husband Stanley of Muskogee; his grandchildren, Angilina Cox  (John) of Hanover Park, IL, Jerimiah Goad of OKC, OK, Tommy Goad (Jamie),  Krystal Cantrell (Zach), all of Huntsville, AL; Vince Gatlin of Muskogee, OK, Belinda Friedrich (Dylan) of Savannah, GA, Shane Arnold of Checotah, OK; his great grandchildren, Kimber Cox and Graysen Friedrich; his best friend and the mother of his children, Linda Sue Goad; his aunt, Jeraldine Pearson of Joplin, MO; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members, and friends.

Funeral services for Wayne will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at Christian Chapel Church with Rev. Conrad Barrett officiating. Interment will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Fort Gibson National Cemetery with full Military Honors.  Pallbearers will be Tommy Goad, Ivan Goad, Dewain Doughty, Bryan Page, Stanley Doughty, and Steve Goad.  Honorary pallbearers will be Vince Gatlin, Shane R. Arnold, Rick Taylor, Vernon (Randy) Goad, Avis Goad, Dave Meabon, Shane M. Arnold, Jerry Gatlin, Donnie Tucker, members of the Cruzin' Angels Car Club, Brothers & Sisters of the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment/Blackhorse. ALLONS!

Funeral services are under the direction of Cornerstone Funeral.
