Glenn “Al” C. Murray, Jr., 80, of Muskogee, Oklahoma passed away Wednesday, November 28, 2012 with his loving family at his side. He was born August 24, 1932 in Muskogee, Oklahoma to Glenn C. Murray Sr. and Hazel Lyle Murray. Al attended school in Muskogee and graduated from Central High School in 1950. He married the love of his life, Bettie Cox, on June 14, 1952 at the home of Bettie’s parents. This year they celebrated 60 years of marriage.
Al worked for the telephone company beginning at Western Electric, then AT&T, and finally Southwestern Bell. He installed and maintained phone equipment for NE Oklahoma and he was a member of the Telephone Pioneers Organization. Al retired in 1994 after 41 years of service in the telephone business.
His hobbies included spending time at the lake, swimming, and boating. Al loved to fly; so much so that he obtained his pilot’s license. He delighted in singing and playing the piano with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Al was a member and a deacon of Calvary Baptist Church. He was known for always keeping busy.
Al was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Bettie of the home; daughter, Rhonda G. Murray Scocos; son, Clifton “Clif” M. Murray and wife Suzanne, all of Muskogee; grandchildren, Nick Scocos and wife Maranda of Derby, KS., Andrew Scocos, Reed Scocos and fiance’ Desi Tripp, all of Broken Arrow, Elyse Murray Dempsey and husband Chad of Muskogee, Elaina Murray of Wagoner, Rannek Murray, Rylee Murray, both of Muskogee; and seven great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests your sentiments of condolence be sent to Calvary Baptist Church, 220 S. “R” Street, Muskogee, OK, 74403. A memorial fund has been set up to honor Al’s legacy.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 1, 2012 at Calvary Baptist Church with Bill Crow officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhill Cemetery where his grandchildren will service as pallbearers.
