Weston Lee Sickler

1930 - 2014

Weston Lee Sickler, 84, of Muskogee, Oklahoma passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at his home with his family by his side. He was born January 2, 1930 in Racine, Wisconsin to Norman D. Sickler and Vivian Maude Sengbusch Sickler. Weston attended Austin High School in Chicago, Illinois where he graduated. After high school, he attended college and then decided to go on the road with his band, The Don Reid Orchestra. Weston was a well-known percussionist and played big band music traveling all over the United States.   

He met and later married Norma Lee Dickman on May 12, 1951 in Delavan, Wisconsin. They shared over 63 years together.  

He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army from which he received an Honorable Discharge.

Weston was known to be a hard worker and was a rancher by trade. His family remembers him as “The Real Cowboy”. He had the patience to fix and repair anything and enjoyed teaching and encouraging his kids to do the same. He was also a 32nd degree Mason where he was head of the Mason Drum Corps as well as an active Shriner where he was a member of the Drum Corps.

Weston loved many and was loved by many.  There wasn’t a person he wouldn't help.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his granddaughter, DeeDee Portis.

Weston is survived by his loving wife, Norma Sickler, children, Lee Sickler and wife, Josie, Linda Sickler Portis and husband, Joel, Bryan Sickler and wife, Becky, all of Muskogee, Cheryl Sickler Monks and husband, George of Stigler, Sandra Sickler Roe and husband, James Jr of Tuba City, AZ; 17 grandchidren, Jessica, Jamie, Jason, Jerry, Wesley, Rachel, Crystal, Scooter, Toni, Vanessa, Tiffany, Josh, Jennifer, Cassandra, Samantha, Jamie Rose, and James Roe III; 27 great grandchildren; son-in-law, Jerry Edgar Sr; many other family members and friends.

The family will receive friends from 5:30-7:30PM, Friday, June 13, 2014 at Cornerstone Funeral Home.

A graveside service for Weston will be 1:30 p.m., Saturday, June 14, 2014 at the Agnew Cemetery in Muskogee County with Mr. Rick Clark officiating. Interment to follow with Wesley Edgar, Jerry Edgar, Josh Monks, JD Roe, Brad Lawley, and Scooter Portis serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Ted Stevens, John Smith, Steve Taylor, Bill Burris, Bret Smith, Frank Clymer, Mitch Brock, Scott Moore,  Clay Nichols, Rick Scott, and Robert Shell.

Funeral services are under the direction of Cornerstone Funeral Home, 1830 North York Street, Muskogee, Oklahoma. Condolences may be made to the family online
