Linda Sue Mathews

1947 – 2014

Linda Sue Mathews, 67, of Warner, Oklahoma, died Monday, June 30, 2014 at Eastar Health System Muskogee.  She was born on April 21, 1947, to Milton Harley and Delsa Ethel (Peninger) Phillips, in Midwest City, Oklahoma.  Linda grew up in Midwest City where she attended school and graduated from Carl Albert High School.  She attended college in Wilburton, Oklahoma where she met and married Don Mathews and they began their family.  Later, Linda continued her education and graduated from Northeastern State University.  She taught school and was a substitute teacher for many years.

Linda loved to sew and was an excellent seamstress.  She had a great love of music and played the piano at several churches.  During the early 70’s, she was the church organist at Temple Baptist Church.  She was a member of First Baptist Church in Warner.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Don Mathews and daughter, Sara Luriee Mathews.  Linda is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Darrel and Nita Kay Mathews of Warner and Dennis and Shellie Mathews of Oklahoma City; granddaughter, Sara Brison and her husband, Larame of Warner; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sandra and Edward Wright and Twylah and Roger Hughes, all of Oklahoma City and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 3, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Warner.  Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
