Chloe Ellen Buffington

1929 – 2014

Chloe Ellen Buffington, 84, of Muskogee, died Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at Eastar Health System.  She was born April 2, 1929 on the family ranch four miles northwest of Grainola, Oklahoma to Donald and Thelma (Carr) Conner.  Chloe attended school in Grainola and graduated from Grainola High School in 1947.  She began working near home at an attorney’s office and worked at the District Attorney’s office for Ralph Haynes in Newkirk.

Chloe married Stanley Buffington on June 19, 1956.  They lived near home for a while but moved around having worked and lived in Muskogee twice.  Chloe worked for the BIA for 22 years.  The family had lived in South Dakota for a short time before moving back to Oklahoma.

Chloe was very active and volunteered very faithfully for Meals on Wheels until she couldn’t any longer.  She also volunteered at the Five Civilized Tribes Museum.  Chloe loved her grandchildren and attended all of their activities. She was their #1 fan, short order cook and drove them on many different adventures.  She was proud that Alexis is studying abroad in Barcelona, Spain.

Chloe was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Thelma Conner and her husband, Stanley Buffington.  Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Rita and Clayton Farmer of Muskogee; granddaughters, Alexis Hames and Claire Farmer; brother, Don Mike Conner of Hurley, NM; sister, Ida Roberts of Fairfax, OK; brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Joe and Dr. Carol Conner of Fairfax; nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

There will be a private family interment.  Memorial services will be 12:00 p.m. Friday, January 17, 2014 at Boulevard Christian Church with Mr. James McCracken officiating.
