Arvie Alvis Mason, Sr., 80, went to be with the Lord on January 19, 2014. Arvie was born April 25, 1933 in Mathis, Texas to Oscar Lonnie and Bytha (Cordell) Mason. He was one of thirteen children and finished his eighth grade education at Baldknob School. Arvie found the love of his life and he and Madelene married on May 15, 1952 in Bentonville, AR. Arvie was a loving devoted husband and father to his wife and three children. Most of all, Arvie was a devout Christian who loved and worshipped our Lord. He served his country in the US NAVY from 1952-1955, where he worked with the Atomic Energy Commission that helped set off the largest H-Bomb in United States history in the Marshall Islands. After the service Arvie started his career in California as a heavy equipment operator. Arvie moved his family to Oklahoma in 1971 where he continued his 34 year construction career. After helping to build the International Harvester plant in Wagoner, he requested they hire him and he worked there before becoming the Superintendent of the Muskogee Turnpike and retired from the OTA. Arvie was a jack of all trades and could work on or fix just about anything. He helped establish the Norwood Volunteer Fire Department in the 1980s. Arvie was a member of Norwood Lakeview Baptist Church where, over the years, he taught Sunday School, worked in VBS, song leading and he was also an ordained deacon.
