Harold Gene (Dink) Lackey

1933 – 2014


— Harold Gene Lackey, 81 years old, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, February 20, 2014. He was born January 23, 1933 to Clem and Leora Lackey in Stidham, Oklahoma. Harold and Virginia (Herron) met and married at the young age of 16 and were lifelong partners till her passing in September 2007. In 2011, he fell in love with his present wife, Lorene Swadley.

Dad loved fishing and as we all use to say “he kept the road hot,” it was mostly to be with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Virginia, and his brothers, Junior and Leon Lackey.

Harold is survived by his present wife, Lorene; two daughters, Donna, and her husband, Jessy R. Highfill, of Council Hill, OK and Pamela, and her husband, Newell Applegate, of Hope Mills, NC; two grandsons, Jessy Ray Highfill, Jr. and his wife, Kari, of Council Hill, OK and Jody Ray Highfill of Sapulpa, OK; one granddaughter, Stacie, and her husband, Kevin Kultgen, of Aurora MO; four great-grandchildren, Jessica Dawn, and her husband, Mathew McCrery, of Tahlequah, OK and Jordan, Jaden and Keira Kultgen, of Aurora, MO. He has four surviving brothers, Elvin, Bill, Charles, and James; two sisters, Nina and Carolyn; many nieces, nephews, and a long list of lifetime friends and good neighbors.

The Lackey family would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers.

Viewing will be Saturday, February 22, 2014 from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Monday, 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at Checotah Funeral & Cremation Service, 211 W. Okmulgee, Checotah, Oklahoma with Mr. John Anderson officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery at Checotah. Pallbearers will be Tommy Herron, James Warren, Stanley Staton, Robert Hill, Bill Davidson and John Dock. Honorary pallbearers will be George Wilson, Ron Garrison, Norris Garrison, W.C. Allmond, Winford Hoisington and Tony Sullins.
